A Journey Through the Lives of Jazz Greats

Great artists get greater as they get older! Some of the Jazz world's greatest musicians expanded their horizons to explore uncharted territory as their own lives changed.

Louis Armstrong's music became infused with greater emotional expression as his reputation as the founding father of modern jazz spread. Miles Davis never stopped exploring and challenging preconceived notions about the nature of jazz. John Coltrane's music changed to reflect his changing feelings about the African American experience.

This fascinating program is about people's lives in relation to their music. Learning about individual histories deepens understanding of artistic contributions. There is a connection between the thought processes of great musicians' art and the thought processes of their other pursuits and experiences.
